Catching Up To Do!

As you all know per Doc Orders I have had 1 Month Off from high intensity workouts. Basically in that month (3 days to go) I have done Walking, Jogging, and some Slow Running anywhere from 2-7miles. But this is nothing close to what I am use to. After working Saturday at Rogue and seeing all my running buddies I had the itch so bad, I needed the burn of a hard workout once again, I figured that I had already been pushing what the Doc had told me and all stitches are still in place so it was time. 4 Days Early (Sunday) I went to the Gym and did a .50mile Sprint Run + 1000m Row x3 Rounds, it killed me, I felt like it was my first workout I had ever done BUT I did it and it felt so wonderful. On both the Run and Row I was about 1min slower than before the 1 month break. After that Cassie (swimmer daughter) and I decided to go Swim Laps for 20mins, I had not done any swimming since the summer time and it felt great.
So I would say I have some "Catching Up To Do" to get back where I was but I AM BACK AND BACK WITH A VENGEANCE...

On the Books -

1st = Cox Family Challenge this week. We made it through Saturday and Sunday with NO eating out, living on Fresh Farmers Market Food so we decided to take it one step further, a WHOLE WEEK of no eating out.

2nd = 10k Trail Run May (last one of series), 1-2 Sprint Tri's this season, and then time for my Half Marathon Season (SA-Nov, 3M-Jan, Austin-Feb) decided this was my Half Marathon Season, time for PRs and Enjoyment, some shorter Run Races in between.

3rd = Taking time off from food logging. After this month I am extremely focused on eating healthy. I am allowing to keep Coffee w/ small amounts of Low Fat Milk and for sweet cravings Organic Dark Chocolate. Eating Out very little and mostly living on as much Farm Fresh items as I can.

Life is Good, I feel Refreshed and Ready to Kick Ass!!!

Hibernating Bear...OH MY!

When an Active Bear goes into Hibernation they become Irritable, Tired all the time (hibernating), Hungry when awake, and just not a Bear you want to encounter.
Let this be a WARNING to all of you out there, about ME at this time in my life. Think of me as that hibernating bear, one that has been cornered and can not go to sleep and hide out.

I had a surgery procedure done by the Dermatologist 2 weeks ago on my Shoulder and Thigh as everybody already knows.

So for 2 weeks I was on NO WORKOUT restriction which killed and depressed me but the 1st week I felt like crap and the 2nd week well lets just say I did 4mile "not running" workouts. Yes, Yes I did pull a few top stitches, but they did get stuck on my shorts when I was "not running". LOL!

So Today was supposed to be a glorious day, getting the stitches out and then going to do a workout (to kill myself) and back to CrossFit tomorrow. Guess the Doc had something else in mind. Another FREAKIN 2 WEEKS! He told me to think of myself as "a 70 year old lady doing workouts". I told him "he better run or I was going to hit him". Lol, he left the room! Guess another 2 weeks of healing and more "not running".
I have so many New Goals, Passion, and Fire inside me right now. Watch out because I will be unstoppable after a month of "rest".

Food has been pretty healthy. I would say I have been 80-90% Paleo and 10-20% Cheats. Not Bad, we will see what the scale says later....  I also did a 7 Day Full Body Cleanse and Detox which really was a good thing.

Signing Off Now,
It's time for this Bear to go Hibernate!

Stitches and More Stitches :(

No Fun Today Thurs 3/25.

I knew I was going to the Dermatologist Surgeon to have minor surgery on two spots that came back with unclear borders.

I had NO CLUE that it would be 2 hours on the table with major cuts (deep and wide), taking out each layer of skin, and lots of stitches underneath and on top of the skin.

Also the entire two hours I was trying to convince him that there had to be some kind of workout that I could do.

The End to the Story = No Workouts including Running, Cycle, Swim, Yoga, Weights, CrossFit, Etc. for TWO WEEKS!!! Oh but I am allowed to walk since they can't keep me from doing that in my daily life. LOL! Whatever!

So Thurs-Sun (1-4) = Depressed, Pain/Soreness, Yuck, No Nothing, Bad Food.

I did work a Running Expo on Saturday which helped get me out and going but after that I was totally a mess and rundown.

Total Crunches Sat-Sun = 200. And that is all the Workout I did.

Why is something so wonderful as Sunshine so bad for you?!

"That is how I get there".

To the Finish Line that is...

Wednesday 3.24.2010 I was feeling so strong, feeling like I was finally going to reach my CrossFit Goals, seeing the results I needed to see.

On the last round of a Extremely Intense/Hard Workout (for me) my Coach said "It feels good getting closer to the Finish Line, I can tell you are working harder".

My Response "That is how I get there". As you are zoning in to that Finish, it is the time to push harder, focus, reach that goal b/c you are so close, so close to the end.

Coach Nikki even exclaimed the fact that she could see muscles and tone in my arms and shoulders, which made me feel even better about what I was doing.

This day was a Good Day, sometimes when trying new stuff and having new goals it is more of a test than anything and now I know my test is working.

CF WOD -

W/U = 100 Jump Rope, 25 Lunges, 10 Neg Bar Pullups x 2-3 Rounds

WOD = Lifts and Row.
500m Row
Deadlift, Hang Clean, Front Sqt, Push Press, Back Sqt, Push Press = 1 Lift x9 = 1 Round
x3 Rounds = 33:20, 45lbs.

Learning the technique and actually getting it down was a big step for me during this workout and also starting with a heavier weight and not stepping down to lighter weight was a huge step for me.

Sweat was everywhere, my shirt soaked, body burning, But Oh SO GOOD!

Over the Rocks and Through the Woods

To Trail Running I come!

A klutz is a person who is clumsy, foolish, inept, or accident-prone. Let's just say the clumsy and accident-prone part was me today. I knew in Trail Running at some point I would fall and sure enough yesterday was my time. Thankfully my friend Leslin was with me or I think I would have started crying instead of laughing. And then sitting at the computer desk at home, writing to JT to let him know about my wounds the desk chair decides to flip over on me which puts me landing on my rear full force to our lovely concrete floors. LOL, LIFE IS GOOD!!!! Girls with Bruises ='s Hot!

Workout for Today =
Trail Run - 41mins

I can really feel the difference in my Endurance and Running abilities which is nice to start having results from CrossFit.

Food = Paleo all Day till Dinner and had a Fast Food Cheat Meal. I was stupid and did not eat enough before I left the house for Doc Appt. and Cassie stuff.

CrossFit = Angie = B.I.T.C.H.......

Woke up with a Sugar/Food Hangover, no liquor in me but all the crap I ate during the weekend pushed me over the edge and literally gave me a hangover.

I am changing up my Food Plan to see if it helps me out. I am very good at structure and that is how I can do the 5 Days Paleo and Free Food Weekend. But what I am finding out is on the weekend I am totally out of control which makes me very grouchy, sick, and not fun to be around. By Sunday Night I am so sick and sluggish it takes me all day Monday to get out of the fog from the weekend.

This week I will probably be slightly off because of Spring Break and doing lots of outings with Cassie but starting next week I will be Full Week Paleo allowing myself 2-3 Cheat Meals. Eventually I want to get that down to 1-2 Cheat Meals a Week and totally enjoy that. So playing around, hopefully this will help my weekends and Mondays.

2 WOD Monday =

CF WOD #1 - Angie =
Time 25:29
100 Chin to Bar Pullups
100 Pushups
100 Situps
100 Squats

CFE WOD #2 =
Run - Time Trial T3 = 15min Sprint, Cover as much Distance as Possible.
Total = 1.7miles, under 9min miles.
My Legs were trashed from the beginning.

Monday Food - Did great Paleo until Dinner and had a piece of Veggie Pizza (leftovers) and a Cupcake (Cassie made for me), but b/c I had done so good all day it did not make me sick. Need to Grocery Shop!

Another Perfect Weekend in Austin

Sunshine, Kite Fest, Trail Walk, Family Fun Time ='s My Weekend.

Sat 3/13 = No Workout, Rest/Recovery Day.

Sun 3/14 = Total walking w/ family 5miles (Trail, Park, Kite Fest).

Great Weekend!

Fit OR Fat Friday?

That is the Question this morning.

Six Weeks Ago was the 1st Fat Pinch Test and now it is Round 2.

Because CrossFit, Lifting Weights, Building Muscles is so foreign to me when the scale keeps going up I get a little nervous.

I started CrossFit in November and I am 6lbs heavier (on the scale), I would not be telling you this if my Fat Test was bad. But I am very happy to say there was less fat to pinch and my Fat Percentage is DOWN :)

So I guess it is Fit Friday!

CF WOD =
400 Meter Sprint Run, 21 KB Swings (10lbs), 12 Burpees x4 Rounds.
Ouch, that was a HARD WOD but I LOVE these kinds of workouts.
5mins of Fun = Ab Work

Food = Day 5 Paleo until Dinner. Felt good about my 5 Days of Paleo.

Happy Fit Friday!

Spring Fever!

Dearest Blog,
I am so sorry you have been neglected this week but that is no reflection of my workouts.
You see the sunshine has been glorious, the sky so blue, the creeks flowing with water, and the birds singing so happy.
When you walk outside the children are riding their bikes and the dogs on leashes.
WHO has time or wants to sit down on the computer and write when I can be outside enjoying life?
I am sorry BUT no worries because I am back!

"We Don't Throw Fits In CrossFit"

"We Don't Throw Fits In CrossFit"

Which I think are the exact words out of Coach Nikki's mouth to me this morning.
Correct me if I am wrong?!

Hissy Fit = A short-lived temper tantrum.
I would not call what I did that but hey others can observe what they want.

Overhead Squats = Arms and Elbows straight overhead (no bend) w/ weight while you Squat butt to ball. When I think of something that makes me so irritated and frustrated b/c I can not get them perfect Overhead Squats would be it. They get under my skin and ONE DAY I WILL CRUSH THEM AND DEFEAT THEM :) But right now let me have my "Hissy Fit", I still do the work.

WODs = CrossFit and CrossFit Endurance Day -

CF WOD #1 -
W/U = 3X10 Squats, Pushups, Situps.
WOD = 2x - 500 meter Row, 15 OH Squats (25-35lbs), 500 meter Row, 15 Toe to Bar
5 minutes of fun = Hard Ab Work

CFE WOD #2 -
TOSH = Run 3x (200meters rec 400m rec 600m rec)
Rest after each interval the exact time it took to do interval.
Ended up being 2.9miles. Ran as Hard/Fast as I could each interval and took rests.

GOOD WODs Today, GOOD Paleo Food Day #1, FELT SO MUCH BETTER TODAY.

GOOD MONDAY!

Hurricane Cox!

Hurricane Cox!

Yes, Hurricane Cox came through my house on Thursday, swept me and my family up and did not release us until Sunday night.

Wow! What a crazy end of the week, I felt like I was spinning out of control and could not get the Workouts or Food that I needed to in.

It started with one "Cheat Meal" and ended up with way too many and lots of chocolate. Workouts were done but never felt like I could hit the full peak I needed to get to.

So Sunday came and I decided to take the whole day off with my family and no workouts for any of us. I needed to take a break and start Fresh and Clean on Monday.

Week WODs in Review =

Thurs 3/4 - CF Endurance Wod = Squats, Pushups, Situps.
3x7min Intervals - Run 3x7min intervals w/ 3min recovery btw rounds (took rec time), hold max distance each.
Total = 21min Sprint 2.1 miles so 10min pace.
It was Slow, I felt like a big/fat whale b/c of food, could not push faster. Right Shin very sore after.

Fri 3/5 - CF Endurance Rest Day but doing CFE anyways b/c I needed more. So 2 WOD FRIDAY!
CF WOD #1 =
Fit Test - 1min of = Pushups (32), Situps (28), 400 meter Run (1:37), Tabata Squats (96).
Better and Improved in 3 months on everything but the Pushups and I think its b/c I was still cold.
AB Wheel

CFE WOD #2 =
Run - 2:1 Pacing - 8x2min On, 1min Off.
FINISHED! Slower than wanted b/c of my left sciatica and right shin bothering me.
Time to do lots of rolling out, stretches, pushups, wall squats. DONE!

Sat 3/6 - Workday at Rogue, NO WORKOUT.

Sun 3/7 - CF Endurance WOD and CF Rest Day. But it ended up being a FULL DAY OF NOTHING WITH MY FAMILY.

I felt like btw Hormones, Crazy Week, Fatigue, Tired, Needing Family Time, Bad Food, ETC...
That a Day Off would do me good mentally and physically and to start Monday off Fresh.

Ended Up the Week w/ 6 WODs and Even though I ate really bad I still ate more Paleo Meals and Snacks than Not.

"Suzanne Go Write Your Name On The Chalkboard........"

In Trouble AGAIN!!!

That's the thing with learning something new and having a Coach watching everything you do.  I swear I am in trouble every day.  LOL! It's All Good but sometimes I feel like that kid in the classroom that has to go in front of the whole class and Write My Name On the Chalkboard.

It was my CF Day Off and CF Endurance Day BUT I SWAPPED.

CF WOD =
Wall Ball Burpees 10
Deadlifts w/ Dumbells 10
Sprint Run
x5 Rounds Total

5min of Fun (NOT) =
Ab Work

I HATE Wall Balls and I HATE Burpees, Put them together and what do you get? DOUBLE DOG HATE!

Very Hard WOD Today but felt good, I worked hard and fast.  I am starting to get the trick of the Fast, Hard, Sprint, workouts.  GOOD STUFF!

Day 3 Paleo = 1 Cheat Meal for Dinner and it made me REALLY SICK.  Cassie had a very busy day w/ TAKS Testing, Ortho Appt., and Eye Exam/Glasses, so it was her decision and treat for Dinner and Dessert and lets just say Mommy felt like she needed a Treat TOO.  Well not so smart b/c I was sick all night, there is a Reason I eat Paleo w/ minimal cheating and that is b/c I feel so much better eating that way.  I have always had major stomach and body reactions to food and eating the Paleo way I never get sick.  This Week is a little tricky in that we have some Family Meals that I know does not have the choice of eating how I do SO I will just be eating really good Paleo all day and enjoy the Dinners with my Family.

Happy Training and Eating!  I Pledge Today to try and NOT get in Trouble!

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Because Coach Nikki Says So.........

That Is Right AND The ONLY Reason I did my WOD Today!

Feeling the Fatigue and Yuck from having 3 Moles Cut Out Of Me Yesterday I pretty much did as little as possible the 1st half of the day.  Decided to Ask Coach Nikki if I could take a DAY OFF for Recovery of Procedure and Her Response was " DO YOUR WOD".  There you have it, guess I am doing a workout after all, 1 Sugar Free Red Bull and CF Endurance WOD here I come.

CF & CF Endurance WOD =
Run: 12x 20sec Sprints, All out Efforts... 2min Recovery between sprints
Decided during the 2min Recovery I would do some CF.
Sprint 20sec, 25 something, Recovery, x 13 Rounds.  25 Something inc - Pushups, Situps, J Jacks, Squats, Etc...

Thank You Nikki I felt so much better after the workout :)

Day 2 Paleo!

Death By Meters Monday..........

I don't know about you but anything that has the word Death in it does not sound like fun to me.

CF Endurance = Rest Day

CF WOD =

Death By Meters - Sprint Run - Timer Set at 1min (?) and you start at 1 Sprint and at each beep you climb the amount of Sprints you do until you run out of time.  I got up to 20 w/ 12sec left and decided to STOP!

KB Swings x 10
Burpees x 10
Total 7 Rounds

BURPEES SUCK!

Food - Week Started back at Day 1 Paleo.

CRAZY ALL ROLLED UP IN ONE!

Saturday 2/27- Sunday 2/28 =

I guess the most exciting thing was I made it through my 5 Days Paleo Eating and it was NOW FREE FOOD WEEKEND!!!

The Funny thing is I ate better than I thought.  I was very conscious of everything I ate during the Weekend and even though I had Cheats I always came back to Paleo eating habits.  How Funny!  The 5 Days eating strict Paleo I felt so good so when it came to cheating I was reluctant.  Had Fun Anyways!

Saturday was a long 8hr Workday for me on my feet so after, I had no energy or desire for a WOD, so DAY OFF.

NOW SUNDAY...................ANOTHER STORY!

3 WOD Sunday IT IS!

CrossFit Endurance (Run) - WOD #1
2x5/5x1 Intervals = 2x5 min intervals w/2min recovery between intervals, 5x1min Intervals w/30sec recovery between intervals, Hold maximal distance possible on each of the set intervals. Ended up over 2miles total.

WOD #2 = Time Trial - 1 Mile TT = Time 8:08 which is a BIG PR for me :) Very Happy, could have gone faster without the fresh/bloody blisters on my heels.

WOD #3 = 2:1 pacing - 8x 2min On, 1 min Off.  Got through 4 Rounds, so Half the WOD and COULD DO NO MORE!

The Endurance Athlete In Me WINS AGAIN!  Yes the WODs are Hard, Yes I go and push myself to the Limit, Yes it hurts, But then you take a breath/get some water and GO TO THE NEXT!

I Guess these are My Shoes! Bloody and I Love Them :) Paper Thin and Speedy Color.

Fran Friday!

Friday 2/26 = Fran Challenge Round 2 (Fran is a CrossFit Workout).

Time to Beat from 1st Round - 8:19

Despite ALL the Nightmares I had Thursday Night it was Friday Morning and Now time to face Fran.  Lets just say Fran is not a very nice girl in the CrossFit World and my stomach was in knots.  Coach Nikki wanted me to stay with the same amount of weight and routine as I did the 1st Round.  Timer goes off and as I get through my first 21 Thrusters I know I have this, get up to do my round of 21 band Pullups and my leg starts shaking out of control (started laughing so hard) switch legs and its time to finish, got through all the rounds without putting my bar down and to the Finish Line I went.  Calling Time at 7:07 and PR 1:12 :) Give me another 4wks and I am so ready for Fran Round 3.  Later Saturday I found out that I Placed 3rd Beginner Level, I can not tell you how good that felt.  BRING IT ON FRAN!

Fran WOD =
21 15 9
Thrusters 35lbs
Pullups w/ Band

Just because I did a Warmup and Fran you don't think I am done, DO YOU?  NOPE!  The Endurance Athlete in me always wins no matter how hard the workout is.

WOD (Workout Of Day) #2!
500 meter Row
50 Situps
x4 Rounds.

Lets just say, I WAS SO FINISHED AND TIRED after that.  No CF Endurance WOD for me, I was SO DONE!  Double WOD Friday It Is!

Friday, February 26, 2010

Don't Stare, It's Rude!

Thursday 2/25 -

Woke up feeling the WOD (workout of the day) from Wednesday so I decided to rest the first half of the day.  Coach Nikki came up with a WOD for me (CF Endurance Rest Day) doing a 2mile Sprint Run and during that Run a set of 25 pushups every so often.  I still had not done it when I had to pick Cassie up from School and take her to Swim at Nitro, told myself I had to do it while she was swimming no matter what.  So I take off down the road from Nitro and every 4-5mins down to the ground I went doing pushups (on the sidewalk/driveway/wherever I was), lets just say cars were slowing down and all eyes looking at me trying to figure out WHAT THE HELL I WAS DOING. :) IT'S CALLED CROSSFIT BABE!!!!!!!!

WOD =
2 mile Sprint Run (felt very sluggish)
6 rounds 25 Pushups
20 Wall Squats
50 Situps

Lets just say I felt so much better after and had tons of energy.  Day 4 of Paleo Eating!

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Feel Like Being Superwoman Today!

Yep you heard it, I don't know if it was the Snow Storm, Rest Day, Family Time, OR WHAT but Superwoman it is Today.

CrossFit WOD = W/U 20ea x 2 - Squats, Pushups, Butterfly Situps, Back Ext.
WOD - 10 20 30 - Medicine Ball Slams, Lunges (ea leg), Overhead Squats/Butt To Ball 25lbs.

CF Endurance Run =  Tabata Run - MY FAVORITE!
20:10 x 8 rounds, 20 seconds on 10 seconds off, all out efforts!  Incline 9-10% Speed 6-6.5.  That incline just about killed me.

Lets just say I got it handed to me.  I never quit but I wanted to.  Both Workouts were really hard and pushed me.  Need to really work on getting my squats lower, not leaning forward so much, keeping butt out. Right Shin and Calves still sore but nothing I can not work through.

After Workouts I went over and did some Grocery Shopping :) I am proud to say that I am on my 3rd Day Paleo and doing great.  Yesterday with it Cold and Snowy I wanted Hot Chocolate and Cookies so bad but it was lots of HOT TEA INSTEAD.  I have been very focused and feeling good.  There is nothing like a Good, New Focus and Goal in front of you to keep pushing you forward.  LOVE IT!

Well this Superwoman is Showered and Just made a Very Yummy Healthy Pot of Chili and I am ready to GO ENJOY!  Happy Training!

SNOW! BLIZZARD! SNOW!

Tues 2/23 -

What more can I say It Snowed and I Played?!!!!!!!!!

No Workout but Snowball Fights and Enjoying Time with My Family.
It was a crazy day to hear on the weather channel we were going to get snow and we did 2.5in.
Good Stuff!

A GOOD Case Of The Mondays!

Monday 2/22 -

Fresh Start, Fresh Goals, Fresh Food!!!!!!

Mentally Ready to Go and Start.  Excited to see what CrossFit and CrossFit Endurance has for me.  New Training through May is to follow the 2 sites and get Stronger and Faster and do some fun Trail Runs on the side.  Paleo Eating Mon-Fri of Each Week, Sat-Sun are Free Food Eating Days.

CrossFit WOD = 5 Rounds/45lbs Thrusters to Max - Total 46.  Pullups w/ Band - Total 60.  Tabata Row.
CF Endurance = Run - 2x By Time 2x12min Rest 2min btw, as much distance covered in those 12mins = Total 2.5miles.  1st 12min Felt Strong, Fast, Easy.  2nd 12min I could feel the fatigue in my legs still and right shin a bit sore.

Great Workouts for the Day and Great Eating.

PM - Went to a Barefoot/Pose Running Seminar.  Very Interesting but a lot to learn and take in.  Would like to take another class where I can actually practice it with the instructors help.  Their take on the "Barefoot" basically was as minimal as you can get, take time for the transition.  Pose Running seems easy and practical once you get the technique down, less injuries, faster, less fatigue on the body, which all that souds like something I want :)

GOOD STUFF!  It is so hard to come off of the high of Training for 6months and then your Goal Race being over with.  But I knew what my next focus and steps were going to be and Monday I was pumped up and Ready to KICK ASS! Its always nice when the case of the Mondays is a good one.

Meat, Eggs, Veggies, Fruit, Nuts, OH MY!!! OH YES :)

It is that Time, Time to get back to Training, New Goals, and Eating Healthy.

A week ago I had finished a Marathon and for the last 7 days it has been a Whatever Week.  Whatever I feel like eating and Whatever I feel like doing as far as Rest, Recovery, Exercise.  I have enjoyed my week and its has been good Mentally and Physically to just be OFF, but I have to admit I am ready for the New Chapter in my life and Ready for Healthy Eating again.

Week in Review -
  • Mon 2/15-Tues 2/16 = Rest, Recover, Hydrate.  Really Sore and Tired Mon & Tues.
  • Wed 2/17 = CrossFit - Barefoot due to blisters, Stretches/Roll Out/Arm & Upper Body Wkout.
  • Thurs 2/18 = 90min Massage.  Ready for Healthy Food again.  Hit the wall w/ Junk and made Dinner.  Squash, Mushrooms, Onion/Garlic, Ground Beef, Tomatoe Sauce = YUMMY! Felt good to eat a Paleo Meal again.
  • Fri 2/19 = CrossFit - 5 Days after Marathon did my 1st Run during WOD, Legs and Feet on Fire.  WOD = 20mins - Run, 5 Step Ups, 10 Pushups, 15 Squats to Ball = 4 Rounds w/ Run & 7 Total Rounds.  50 Situps + 50 4lb Zig Zag Abs.  Even though it hurt I was glad I pushed through and did it b/c in the end I felt better.
  • Sat 2/20 = Worked 4hrs - Tired and Bad Allergies - Rested the rest of day.
  • Sun 2/21 = My Last FREE Day - But I can honestly say I am Mentally Ready to get on to my New Goals and Back to Good Paleo Eating.  Today I am Randomly throughout the Whole Day doing Squats, Pushups, Situps, Crunches :)
So that Ends My Week.  Tomorrow Starts Off with Fresh Ideas, Fresh New Goals, and Fresh Food.  I can now, through all of the emotions I have gone through this week be proud of myself for finishing the Austin Marathon 2010 and the 6months of Hard Training I put into it, not only the Training but coming back from my death bed basically.

Post Race Report - 26.2 Austin Marathon 2.14.2010

Post Race Report – 26.2 Austin Marathon 2.14.2010 =

This is long and wordy, so sorry for those trying to read it, but I don’t want to leave anything out for my notes.

I am just going to get it over with and Post my horrible time = Garmin said 26.45miles @ 5:53:16.

Some Things I read about course –
1. Course not an easy one.
2. Difficult Course w/ plenty of rugged up hills.
3. First 16miles inc. the hardest, longest hills.

Course Review –
Starts out uphill South Congress – South 1st Cesar Chaves – Veterans Mile 8 (Bathroom) – Lake Austin uphill – Enfield short climb – Exposition hills are long and difficult – 35th Street short climb over MoPac (this is where I started crashing). 2nd Half starts mostly flats – Jackson/Bull Crk gradual up hills – Northcross equals Mile 17 OUCH/HURTING – Dwtwn Finish!

Report –
Good Sleep, Got my normal breakfast down, smooth morning, perfect weather, good outfit =s Ready to Race.

Met up with Friend Trish before race and I was ready and feeling strong. I was so sure nothing could be worse than last year Marathon (which was my 1st full and I was prego), after all my health issues up till Sept. when training started, I made it, I pushed through, built my body up, and made it to Race Day. Felt so strong and confident, I was so ready for a Big PR (personal best). Starting out everything felt great, the only thing I would have changed is to have gloves on because my hands were freezing. Trish and I did not even notice the up hills on Congress, we did not worry about water for the 1st 4miles (I carried my own water bottle). However we did need to go to the bathroom but the potty lines were so long we just put it off for awhile. Feeling good and strong we were staying right on target pace (some a little faster/slower) but right on pace. We just kept commenting on how good we felt. Around Veterans Mile 8 before we got to the crazy hills I told Trish we needed to just stop, get liquids, and go to the bathroom, this was the time. I think we were in line all of 1min before I made the comment the clock was still running (bummer), next thing I knew I saw a building and I told Trish I would wait for her but I was going to squat, well right behind me was Trish and before you know it we took position, it was so funny because as we finished up we had about 15 other woman lined up by us Thanking us for the idea. Highlight of my Day!

Miles 8-12 = Crazy Hills. Last year I did not run up Exposition and I told myself this was the year and the crazy part of it, it felt so easy and great. The hardest part of the Marathon 1-12 felt so good, I was on track, I ran and conquered all the hills, I was going to get my big PR. We ran all the hills, no stops but the 1 bathroom break, and on pace. Rhonda (Trish’s Girlfriend) met us at the bottom of Exposition and even commented on how we were right on target (took us 17 +/- min to get to the start line). We made it to 35th Street which was a big relief getting over the hardest part of the marathon. Got to MoPac Bridge and that is when I knew I had not taken a 2nd Gu and needed to walk through the water stop and take in nutrition and liquids. So sending Trish and Rhonda in front I did what I needed to and then started up again. I wanted to get back with the girls and knew my friend Leslin was right around the corner on Jefferson ready to run the 2nd half with me. At that point all my pep was out and no talk left in me but I was still on a mission to PR. Rhonda and Trish in front of us, Leslin did the talking as I listened and kept moving forward to the half way mark.

MADE IT HALF WAY! 2:44:53 w/ bathroom & drink stop.

2nd Half is a different story for me, 13-17 miles were very hard mentally for me, as I started to lose the energy and stamina I had, it got me down. As Leslin talked me through we would pick marker run to truck – take short walk break (fast walking) – run down hill – walk uphill (fast walking), but still made it to mile 17 pretty strong but off time. My family was there to cheer me on and hand me Gatorade, took short walk break here. By this time it was like somebody beat and unplugged me, I could feel squishy blisters on both feet under toes every stride I took, my hands (especially left) got so swollen I could not move it (like the Pillsbury dough boy), could not stomach another Gu but choked a 3rd one down btw the next 5miles. And we played the run/walk (fast walking) game to Mile 20.

All this time playing back and forth with Rhonda and Trish, we also kept about 4 people in our sites the whole time. Which FYI those people I ran past to the Finish Line which at least helped me feel a little better. At mile 20 we spoke to a guy by us which basically was a complete downer and made me realize I was not only not going to PR but not going to make my last year horrible time whish just pissed me off. I wanted to just stop and cry BUT that was not an option. Even though it got to the run/walk/shuffle game to mile 24 I never stopped, I never stopped to stretch or take a breather, I was always moving forward at ever second the clock was going.

When my body completely gave out I made it keep going, mile 24 we could see the Capitol and Leslin said its right in front and you have a big downhill to finish line. I could see my family and I shifted into gear and busted it all out from that point to the Finish Line. Leaving people behind me and crossing that line.

I can say one thing (or maybe more) positives about this particular race –
1. I never quit moving forward.
2. I left everything out on that course.
3. I had nothing left when I finished.
4. No Shin and/or Calf Pain.
5. I Finished a Marathon!

Horrible time set aside I finished a Freakin Marathon and Never Stopped.

Thank You to my Friends Trish and Leslin for getting me through this Race.
Thank You Husband, Daughter, and Mom for being support and smiling faces out on the course. Thanks to Rogue Training and CrossFit Cedar Park for such great Training, next time I will PR.
